Just got off the magnificent ocean freedom machine. What a vessel, what wonderfull helpful staff. I had dived before in Tahiti 20 years ago and felt comfortable, but today I could get a grip of it and with as much help and reassurance from the staff I couldn't dive today. No matter at all as the snorkelling is amazing and the barracuda swimming around the back of the boat was truly amazing. There are 4 different places to relax and we used them all at some point during the day. Money very well spent and I would recommend this to anyone at any level of competence.

We had a family holiday in Cairns and hired a car through Gem Rent-a-Car. Whilst the car was adequate the customer service displayed by this company was not. The initial quote was for a large car but we were given a medium car without any prior communication and then charged at the large car price. Contacting the owner by phone was difficult as he was always 'on the road with a client' and he requested that emails be sent. Emails were sent as per his direction with no responses for days. I am still awaiting a CORRECT refund! I found this to be a poorly organised company with seemingly little administrative support.

Rebecca Thurston from Melbourne commented on Flames of the Forest

I was treated to a most beautiful evening at Flames under the forest whilst on holidays in Cairns with my boyfriend in January and we absolutely loved it.
The sounds and smells of the forest were just so unbelievably different to anything else we have ever experienced and the food and service was excellent.
He just recently asked me to be his wife and of course I said yes so we will be looking at Flames for our wedding venue next year as a definate.
W3e want to show our family and friends what we discovered not only at flames but also Port Douglas.
If you are going to Cairns make sure you make a booking as they get very bust and do not operate every evening.

We visited Chillagoe caves with our kids. This was our first visit to such natural caves and we all immensely enjoyed it. The guide was very informative and told us everything we needed to know about the caves and the surrounding areas. The tour also visited the Mareeba Wetlands and we saw lots of birdlife and even some emus. This was an amazing tour and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone who wants to see the outback west of Cairns.

Kelly M from Hawaii commented on Big Cat Green Island Cruises

My family and I did a full day out at Green Island on the recommendation of the Hilton tour desk. We loved it. The fish and the coral just off the beach and along the jetty are amazing. There are colourful fish everywhere, sea turtles, beautiful coral - just fantastic. On Green Island you can relax on the beach or stroll up for a bite to eat and a cold drink at the restaurants. The island is small enough to walk around. The crew on the Big Cat and the Reef Rocket were friendly and helpful. Overall the boat trip out was lovely and the crew both informative and friendly. Green Island was beautiful and we will be going back

Only 19 kms off the coast of Port Douglas is the stunning Low Isles.
Perfect place for me and the family to learn how to snorkel. We did the glass bottom boat and a marine bioligist guided walk around the Island. It has the highest rate of nesting Sea Turtles in the Great Barrier Reef where we actually got to swim with 6 of them, i also managed to sneak in a nana nap on the beach.

Joan Charleston from Sydney commented on Flames of the Forest

Flames Of The Forest is definatly a must do, They picked my partner and I up from the Hilton and dropped us at the venue, which is ten minutes from Port Douglas.
Tucked away in a secret location you come accross a truely magical and mystical candle lit forest.
I chose to go on the Aborigianal Cultural Experience night, where two local brothers share their cultural background. The didgeridoo is truely mind opening and their stories and culnary journeys are extraordinary.
The seven course banquet with produce grown and sourced locally on the Tablelands was delightful. I am so happy that i chose this experience. Perfect night.

I found this tour amazing as the Island was so pretty and so much to do there aswell. We started the morning with doing the boardwalk through the forest and seeing the awesome Nautical Museum, where the largest croc in captivity in Australia was. (He was HUGE!!)
I did the semi submarine tour and also snorkeled as the snorkel gear was included.
I went the hole kit and kaboodle and went on a senic helicopter ride, seeing the coral from above is just so mind blowing as you dont realise how big the Great Barrier Reef really is.

Last visited Cairns and the Kuranda Rail/skyrail was in September 2005. It was an awsome experience going through the historic culture and heritage of this beautiful place.

The waterfalls are breathtaking and gives you the oportunity to take a few minutes as the train stops in the heart of the waterfalls so you take photos of the natural beauty.

Previous to the 2005 visit I have also taken the same journey in December of 1992. It is a place that draws you back when you first visit Cairns. I definately recommend tourist visit this place....

I upgraded with this tour and went in a helicopter to the pontoon and returned by boat. OMG It was so worth it. The views were spectacular, they treated me like V.I.P and it helped with the sea sickness as well. The pontoon itself had loads to do on it, the time just flew by. I did an introductory dive with sun lover also, and found their staff to be very kind and supportive.

Thank to your tour desk team for recommending Frankland islands to me. It really was the sort of island experience I was looking for. I wanted to get away from the crowds and find my own bit of beach and relax. I did some snorkelling and saw some really massive turtles. Such beautiful, magestic creatures. The island itself was quite fun to explore as well, there are some really nice rock pools on the far side of the island. I would really like to come back on day and maybe pay to camp on the other island, that would just be an incredible trip.

Thanks for a great day out. Josephine was the most lovely place, getting to swim surrounded by rainforest. This tour was quite broad in allowing me to see the rainforest, crocodiles and wetlands. The crocodile farm was particularly cool, the crocodiles were a hell of a lot of bigger then our alligators back home.

My favourite part of this dining experience happened as soon as I arrived there. wherever there is that is - with our destination being top secret. It was that first moment where your walking along this rainforest path and it opens up and you see the most breathtakingly beautiful view lit up with chandeliers. The whole experiences was just wonderful and the food was delicious, I had to remind myself to pace myself with seven courses to look forward to.

I went on two tropical horizon tours in the beginning of May. The first was their Kuranda trip which I enjoyed because of the skyrail and train, but in my opinion I would say that their paronella park journey is better. It was far more of a guided experience. The castle was very impressive and mila mila falls was beautiful.

My family loved Frankland islands. It was really good for my two boys the water got gradually deeper so I felt comfortable with them swimming/playing in the shallows. The glass bottom boat and semi-sub were were great giving us a chance to see the reef deeper out where I wouldn't have been able to take the boys. I would definitely recommend booking the all inclusive package because the tours of the island and the water are worth it. It's with a marine biologist, whose really nice and lets the group touch things like starfishs etc. All in all it was a wonderful day. Thanks heaps.

The second being the tour of the island I particularly enjoyed the tour of the rock pools and getting to see and hold a starfish. and of course the reef itself is so beautiful. I didn't have a lot of time in Cairns and I really feel that this trip gave me a really nice overview of the area. I was fortunate enough to go out on an agents famil on the new Tusa 6 on sunday with my family and we absolutely loved the new boat. She went thru the water without a bump so we did not have one seasick person at all and the winds were at 10-15-20 knots.
We went to Hastings reef and saw an epelet shark (not sure what it is called but apparently very rare) huge Maori Wrasse and masses of other rather large fish and lots of schools of smaller colourful fish.
I actually learnt more about the Cairns Great Barrier Reef from the cruise director who took us on a snorkel adventure than I have on any other boat so a big thank you to him (sorry forgot your name)
All of the crew were great, the food great the boat extremely comfortable and the reef beautiful. Thank you Phillip, Katrina and all the team at Tusa 6 we loved your boat.

Melanie Fields from Atherton commented on Frankland Islands

I have been to many of the island off of Cairns and Franklands is my favourite. The coral is better and there was far more marine life. The best bit about it, is that there are less people. I must have counted about sixty people the day I went, so my partner and I could go off on our own and find a secluded bit of beach.

My kids loved green island. I have a 7, 13 and 14 year old. I wanted a trip that kept them all happy. Being on the island made it easier for me to keep an eye on my youngest in the water. But there was still coral for the older children to go snorkelling and my son even had his first dive. The island literally had everything on it from an ice cream store to an animal park. next time I would definately book a room in the resort.

I went out on a choppy day and I get easily sea sick. I chose the island specifically because it was such a short distance from the land and it certainly made the difference. we were there so quickly i barely had time to notice I was on a boat. And while swimming the island actually protects snorkelers from the rougher winds. I would recommend this to people like myself who were not born to be sailor's.

They also got my hubby (who dislikes putting his face in the water) back in the water for the second reef, I could not thank them enough for their help. Skipper even found a whale in between the reefs! That day was by far the highlight of our trip.

As a local I do not get out in my backyard enough so I decided that I would grab my girlfriend and get of the couch and go trekking to Cape Tribulation with Billy Tea Bush Safaris. It was an early morning start but that was ok as we did not play up the night before and we were met by our driver host for the day who had a very welcoming cheesy grin to meet us. We got to ride in the brand new overland truck in the nice comfy seats that ride up high so you can see everything. Trip to Cape Trib was informative and scenic along the way and the first activity we got into was crocodile spotting. It was our lucky day as we saw a huge male and two females on the river banks. Then it was off into the magical rainforest and boardwalks and beaches. Our host gave us lots of information we would never see or learn about if we went here by ourselves so we were fully informed about the importance of preserving our rainforests and its endangered inhabitants. We went swimming in a crystal clear creek which was freezing and tasted tropical fruits that I have never been game to buy. Great BBQ lunch a play with kangaroos and wallabies and then off for some exotic tropical fruit ice cream on the journey home. We had the best day! Thank you Billy Tea for showing us our beautiful backyard you guys do it so well and your drivers are fabulous. Well done to you!

Turner Turner commented on Passions of Paradise

I went on the Passions of Paradise trip on Sunday 8th May. I am not sure what made me choose Passions of Paradise, but I am so glad I did! It was "awesome" and then some!! While some boats have hundred of passengers on board, the maximum their boat can carry is 85 and we had 74 our day. It feels very personal, friendly and special and if you soon get to know those on board. All the crew were great so it seems a bit mean to select any in particular but take Simon, who led the day - he knew all 74 of our names within a few minutes of us all being on the boat and called us all by name all day, and got them right! He kept checking we were getting what we needed and also did magic tricks on the return journey back from the reef! They are hugely knowledgeable about the Reef and so helpful. I was quite nervous of swimming as I am not a very strong swimmer so Anau, one of the crew, took a few of us on a snorkelling tour with a lifesaving ring, at no extra charge. For an hour he pulled us round the reef, making sure we saw all the best areas and was both patient and charming! What a star. And then, at the second location, Glen took those of us who wanted to out on their glass bottom boat (small extra charge) and was very insightful about what we saw and obliging in helping us see what we wanted like turtles! I can't recommend Passions of Paradise highly enough. When I return I wouldn't go anywhere else! Thank you so much for an amazing and great value day.

kathleen Trott from Schofields, Sydney, NSW commented on Big Cat Green Island Cruises

Missing Cairns already. We went on 3 boat trips with different companys and by far the Big cat to Green Island was the best.
We snorkled and saw heaps of beautiful coloured fish and coral big and small, hubby swam with a turtlle. Glassbottom boat was Excelent for my 10 yr old who was to scared to swim with the fish & she saw nemo and 2 small sharks. We walked around the whole Island, saw lots of jumping fish and my 7 yr old spotted 3 sting rays, it was so exciting.
The best place to SNORKLE BY FAR, we will be doing the trip again when we visit Carins next year and will try all the other activities, especially the submarine.
THANK YOU BIG CAT Reef Cruises you made our holiday. We will be recommending you to everyone.

I live here and know that crocodiles are such secretive little buggers, so it can be a challenge to see them in wild. At hartleys there are crocs galore. Definate highlights are being able to feed them and the river cruise. All the other native wildlife is definately a bonus. Such a great day!

Best trip out to the Reef. I was really nervous about going out on a boat, because I get really bad sea sickness. But the trip out was so calm and short, only like 30 minutes out there. I saw a crocodile in the river as we were leaving. Kool! And the island is so pretty, the water is so clear and there is so much to see. I could live there! thanks to the crew :) such a good day out.

Blythe Rallo from Darwin commented on Deep Sea Divers Den

The cabins were spacious, the meals were fantastic and the crew gave excellent dive briefs to ensure that all divers were comfortable.

The Norman Reef is absolutely stunning during the day time or even at night for the night dive!

This is a great way to spend a holiday and especially with meals, accommodation and dives all included!

There is nothing more peaceful then waking up in the middle of The Great Barrier Reef!

Blythe Rallo from Darwin commented on Silver Swift

Silver Swift Dive and Snorkel was an incredible day. The day began with poor weather conditions... Luckily we were going out on a boat that picked their locations daily based on weather conditions, tides and visibility. The skipper Kev took us to 3 stunning protected outer barrier reef locations with 100% visibility. The crew were friendly in aiding the snorkellers and the dive team were experienced and knew the sites very well. Lunch was catered by the Sebel and was exquisite! The boat was very clean and featured hot water showers and spacious changerooms. Silver Swift is unique in the way that it has a specialised ride control system to ensure the smoothest ride possible which made everyone on board very comfortable. Great Job to the Silver Swift team - we will definitely be back!

Blythe Rallo commented on Billy Tea Bush Safari's

A self drive of the Daintree just did not do it for me... The Daintree and Cape Tribulation tour with Billy Tea Bush Safari's opened my eyes to how much I had missed out on during my self drive and how much more I saw while being guided! Finn, our tour guide, did an excellent job and there was nothing he couldn't answer for us in regards to the Daintree Rainforest. My Bloomfield Track photos are just stunning. We saw crocodiles on our river cruise, tasted tropical fruit, swam in Emmagen Creek and had lunch with the Kangaroos too! I am very glad I chose to travel with Billy Tea Bush Safari's.

Blythe Rallo from Darwin commented on Cairns Night Zoo

A real Aussie experience! Most Australian animals are nocturnal and very full of life at night which makes the Cairns Night Zoo experience the best time to see the animals. From cuddling a baby koala to the campfire with the kangaroos, The Cairns Night Zoo exceeded our expectations.

Gene Herbohn commented on Silver Swift

Was told they were the best dive boat out of Cairns so decided to do my first ever intro dive with them and all i can say is i was a certified diver a week later. Couldn't fault the boat, crew, gear or food in anway, all were 5 star.

If you are wanting to do diving whether a cert or intro these guys are the best, the locations and the marine life were all brilliant. They have the option of a few differnet reefs so you will get to see the very best the GBR has to offer.

I've done a few different operators now and a still find Silverswift to be the premier company to go diving with out of Cairns. FOr a good day on the reef i can recommend them enough.
